How well does Digital ICE (IR cleaning) work? Let's take an extreme example of a slide that has bad scratches, dust and a fingerprint. We don't shy away from the challenges (note: we have not fully edited these pictures, so the colors are from the raw scan and are off from what the final product would be):

As you can see this image has a set of deep scratches in the upper left hand corner. No amount of cleaning will remove them. It is also covered in dust and there is a big finger print right in the middle. With digital ICE technology, we can guarantee that you will not receive images back from us that look like this.

After Digital ICE, the picture looks like this:

Below is a close up of the scratches and dust in the top left corner before Digital ICE:

Below is the same image after we cleaned it up with Digital ICE.
Look especially at the scratch at the bottom in the trees:

Not perfect, but much better. The dust is all but gone. The scratches are deep into the emulsion of the film itself, the scratches are not removed completely, but they are minimized. Think of the hours of work saved in Photoshop or the hundreds lost slides that can be recovered.

Now let's look at that fingerprint.
At this extreme magnification you can actually see the droplets of oil from the fingerprint ridges below:

And now for the clean up. A big improvement:

Though not all slides are extremely filthy, dust is common on every slide we scan. Here is an example of what we might normally see on your slides.

Look closely at the below picture, especially at the sky. There are no birds. Just dust on the film:

Once you have found them, scroll to the image below and see how well you did:

Just for this example we covered each spec of dust with a red dot so you can see them all clearly. This is par for the amount of dust on most slides.

Finally we digitally remove the dust from every image and replace each spec with what should be there, your original image:
